Spring is here. Time to put away the heavy plaid and don some lighter, brighter attire. To celebrate Samuel Windsor’s new Spring/Summer collection, we challenged six creative female lifestyle bloggers to dress the men in their lives for under £60.
So if your summer wardrobe is looking a little worse for wear or, ahem, not fitting quite as well as it ought, take inspiration from the ladies who took part in our #60forspring challenge. Here are their clever ideas on how to refresh your wardrobe for less.
Cassie’s husband is a stickler for quality. His attitude to fashion is ‘buy well, buy once’, so the pair wanted to find beautifully made, affordable classics for his spring wardrobe.
“I think the hues work beautifully together without looking too matchy-matchy… I love how the darker linen jacket smartens up the whole look effortlessly,” says Cassie.
Love Cassie’s picks? As a thrifty blogger, she made full use of our sale to bring her husband’s outfit in at £60. Some of the items she chose have changed price since April, but you can get a very similar look for about £63 while stocks last.
Mary’s husband, Mr Smith, has lost a massive 2 stone in weight since January. When we asked her to take part in our #60forspring challenge, she leapt at the chance to “help him rock that handsome, new trimmer self into Spring/Summer 2019.”
But Mary’s real challenge was to prise Mr Smith out of his navy comfort zone. He won the battle over his lower half – choosing moleskin blue jeans over her pick of orange chinos. She did manage to persuade him into a short sleeve jersey polo in red and navy, however, proving that give and take is the path to a happy relationship.
“I love this smart casual look for him and he feels good in it too… a stylish and comfortable Spring look for Mr Smith for close to £50, and a marriage that is still very much intact – mission accomplished!”
Love Mary’s choices? Shop the entire outfit now for just £49.95.
Natalie’s husband, Mr K, is not a fan of clothes shopping. He avoids the High Street like the plague, preferring to hold onto his clothes until they’re worn through!
But when we challenged Natalie to our #60forspring challenge, Mr K happily chose a new outfit for their upcoming holiday, plumping for our dusky pink Short Sleeve Pique Polo Shirt and a smart pair of Summer Weight Chino Shorts.
“I think Mr K did a fantastic job of finding an outfit for our holiday for £60. He stepped out of his comfort zone and embraced a new style – he’s going to look great on holiday!” says Natalie.
Natalie’s picks can currently be bought for just £49.95
Penny’s boyfriend Ben is notoriously fussy when it comes to fashion, so she wasn’t sure if he’d rise to our #60forspring challenge. She needn’t have worried.
The shirt was a particular hit with Penny: “It also looks pretty good dressed down with jeans and no tie; ideal for a night out with friends when you need to be a little more dressy, or for a casual Friday in the office.”
For a cool ‘summer in the city’ look like Penny’s boyfriend, you can currently snap up these items for less than £65.
When our #sixtyforspring challenge coincided with a long-awaited evening out, Frankie was keen to get husband Mr J out of his usual ‘oxford shirt plus chino’ comfort zone.
She persuaded him to try our Slate Floral Linen Shirt and it struck the perfect balance between smart and casual.
With the rest of her £60 budget, son-in-law Mr G picked a new outfit to wear as coach of the grandkids’ football team. He picked a Green Twill Shirt and Classic Slate Jumper combo – a huge improvement on his usual tracksuit affair!
“Challenge achieved on not one but two men in my life,” says Frankie.
To steal Frankie’s style choices, all three quality items are currently available at just under £65.
Hayley knew her husband Jon’s wardrobe needed a bit of a spruce up. So when we set her the #sixtyforspring challenge, she couldn’t wait to re-kit traditionalist Jon in some of our Samuel Windsor best.
Hayley chose our Short Sleeve Casual Print Shirt in Navy – cool for warm evenings and smart enough for nights out – and our Moleskin Jeans in mushroom. There was even enough left in the pot to buy our Long Sleeve weekend shirt in Red-Blue check.
She’s happy to report that Jon was “blown away” by her choices. He loves his new outfits and Hayley loves his new look! And at bang on £60 for all three items – she’s really nailed the challenge as well!
