The UK summer might be short – three hot days and a thunderstorm to be precise – but that just makes it even more important to enjoy it while it lasts.

And suffering in a wool suit designed for winter simply won’t cut it.

An invitation to a wedding, a summer graduation, a weekend literary festival – all are occasions that demand a certain sartorial elegance. For perfect summer suit, blazer and jacket selections, here is our guide to suits that celebrate summer.

French wedding

Remember Nicole – forever cadging the car keys from her overprotective, doting father? We’re not suggesting you buy a Renault just to drive to a wedding, but summer nuptials here on the other side of the channel call for a suit every bit as sharp as ‘Papa’s’.

We suggest an elegant linen suit. Two buttoned, double vented and with notch lapels – it’s a classic look that’s cool, stylish and comfortable. Practise your gallic shrug, to complete the look.

Literary festival

From Edinburgh to Port Elliot the festival season is well underway. If you want to cut a dash at the fringe, it’s not too late to invest in a summer jacket that conveys informal sophistication. Worn with a crisp white collared shirt and flat fronted chinos, you’ll look good and still avoid the jeans, t-shirt, jacket look that’s become such a cliche.

Our suggestion, a selection from our range of summer jackets. The classic cut and comfortable cotton or linen construction make for a winning combination sure to give literary friends something to read up on!

Yacht club gathering

Yachties are comfortable in boat shoes and shorts. But when the sailing is done, it’s back to the club for drinks and nibbles. Whether a sailor or just in it for the social side, an evening at the yacht club demands at the very least, a nod to classic styling. And for regatta week, something a little more flamboyant is de rigeur.

It’s just as well we stock a wide range of summer jackets and blazers. Try our seersucker jackets – they shout effortless elegance. With a unique cooling cotton weave and a soft styling it’s a jacket fit for a commodore.

Glorious Goodwood

Arguably the most eagerly anticipated event of the flat racing season, Glorious Goodwood is a day at the races you’ll never forget. Mingle with the great and the good, sip champagne and tuck into punnets of sumptuous strawberries drowned in lashings of cream – and all on a stunning course overlooking the South Downs. It’s England’s green and pleasant land at it’s most picturesque summer best. Oh and don’t forget to take a flutter on some of the best horse racing you’ll ever see.

But what to wear…We suggest a summer blazer for a look that’s very stylish indeed, and it’s 100% cotton too so ideal for keeping you cool as you cheer on the gee gees. And for your head, it has to be a genuine Panama hat.

Proud father of a graduating university student? Graduation day marks the culmination of a lot of hard work – and not just on the part of your son or daughter! Make the most of the special day by looking the part. We suggest a timeless look that’s formal enough to suit the occasion yet comfortable enough to see you through a hot summer’s day.

A classic navy blazer is the way to go. Twinned with shirt, tie and chinos, and topped with a Panama hat, you’ll embody such a ‘degree’ of style as to make your offspring unembarrassed to be seen with you!
