5 Irishmen with serious style credentials

Irish Style

Ireland’s most fashionable exports…

Irishmen have reputations for being somewhat charming with an accent that has the power to melt hearts.

And some (handsome) sons of the Shamrock have even cracked Hollywood with their million dollar smiles and swagger.

Take a look at five Irishmen with serious style credentials.

1. Pierce Brosnan

The names Brosnan, Pierce Brosnan.

You just have to be suave and sophisticated to play James Bond, so along with super cool cats like Sean Connery and Roger Moore, there’s Ireland’s godfather of finesse, Pierce Brosnan. Pierce is like a vintage wine that keeps on getting better with age and although in his late 50s, Pierce looks better than ever.

Whether on the big screen or downtown in LA, here is a man that dresses well and likes the finer things in life, a man that really knows how to wear a suit (and a shirt and tie) with a pair of shiny leather shoes. He’s old skool with a ‘k’ and keeps on getting cooler.

2. Colin Farrell

Bad boy Colin Farrell rocks the boho look.

If Pierce Brosnan is the epitome of cool refinement, then Colin Farrell is at the other end of the spectrum. He has fire in his belly and represents a wilder and more rugged personality. He’s picked up a bit of a bad boy reputation, but that’s the nature of the intense and brooding actor, just ask Russell Crowe and Oliver Reed.

He has a bit of a boho, rocker style and he wears a lot of T-shirts and hats and likes his accessories like leather bracelets and silver rings. He also likes to mix it up with jeans and a smart blazer combo.

3. Jamie Dornan

Ex-model Jamie Dornan knows how to do suave.

Currently the hottest property in Hollywood after his role in every housewife’s favourite: Fifty Shades of Grey, Belfast born, Jamie Dornan is under the spotlight. So what does a man that has gone from playing a serial killer in The Fall, to a power crazy sadist in Fifty Shades, dress like?

Well, he may be firmly established as an actor, but Jamie used to be a top model and once starred in some major advertising campaigns for some of the world’s biggest labels, so it’s a given that this guy dresses very well. His style is contemporary and he manages to combine denim, tailoring and jersey. This results in a look that appears to be very relaxed, but there has been some consideration invested into the finer details like choice of colours and cuts.

4. Liam Neeson

Bespoke designer suits are the way to go, when you are as strapping as Liam Neeson.

He’s been around for a while, but this 6ft 4’ Northern Irishman owns a very particular set of skills and … he will find you (if you don’t agree that he’s a very stylish man). Liam Neeson has become a movie-making machine and we could fill this page alone listing all the action roles he has played in recent years.

Like a certain Clint Eastwood, Liam is tall, sports a fighter’s brow and nose and cuts an intimidating presence. Here is a man built for the power suit and he loves his designer suits. It’s a strong look indeed.

5. Michael Fassbender

Michael Fassbender has a keen eye for balancing simplicity with style.

German/Irish actor, Michael Fassbender has gone from strength-to-strength after his amazing portrayal of IRA prisoner Bobby Sands in Hunger going on to play a sex addict in Shame, and Carl Jung in A Dangerous Method. These are three heavyweight films that will turn you upside down with uncomfortably mesmerising performances from one of Hollywood’s leading actors.

Fassbender’s style is simple yet elegant. He tends to have a stubble, but it’s well-kept, he prefers shirts with a V-neck in neutral colours, but they’re fitted and not baggy, he also likes a leather jacket, but again it’s minimalist, meaning there isn’t lots of details like zips and pockets. Add a pair of sunglasses to the look and that’s a Fassbender.
